Build orders are a special kind of quote, created from the parts screen. They allow you to rebuild a single part from a combination of other parts.
As soon as you create a build order on a part, the cost of that part becomes the sum of all the build order associated with that part.
Creating a build order
- Create a new part, or open an existing part on the the Parts
- Go to the advanced tab (on the Parts screen) and click the "Create New" button. This will open/clear the Quotes screen, beginning a new build order. (If the parts screen has unsaved changes, they will be saved before continuing.)
- Add parts to the build order on the quites screen.
- Click "Save".
The user is free to add parts to the build order at this point as if it were a regular quote or invoice. Once the user finishes and saves the build order, the Build Order Number and Total Cost of the build order is added to the Build Order list on the Advanced tab of Part screen, and the cost from all the build orders on this particular part is added up to replace the Cost field on the Part Info tab. This field then becomes read-only, since the cost of this part will be derived from the sum of the total costs of its build orders from this point on.
The Quotes screen
When a new build order is begun by clicking the button on the Parts screen, the Quotes screen is cleared and the user will have a chance to save any data they may have been working on. The customer information fields are greyed out and the user no longer has access to them. In addition, the "Build Order" radio button is selected automatically.
If the build order being created is the first one on the part, then the Quotes screen will open with a lineitem already on it. This lineitem will have a price equal to what the cost of the part was. This way, the cost of the original part is included in the Total Cost on the Part Info tab along with the combined cost of all the build orders.
Opening existing build orders
To open an existing build order:
- Open a part with associated build orders
- Go to the Advanced tab
- Double-click a Build Order in the Build Order list
This opens the Build Order on the Quotes screen.
At this time, a build order that was just added to a new Part cannot be opened this way. You will need to save the part and reopen it before you can open that build order from the parts screen.
Home screen
Build orders are displayed on the Home screen in the Build Orders tab.
