Setting up an IP Printer

  1. Make sure the user knows the difference between an IP printer and USB (IP Printer plugs right into the network via cat5 cable).
  2. Have them plug the printer into the network. If they are using DHCP(most likely), it will obtain an IP automatically.
  3. Have them use the printer's screen to obtain the IP address of the printer or print off the printer config page which will have its IP.
  4. Once you know the printer IP, Add a new printer.
    1. Local printer
    2. Create new port
      1. Standard TCP/IP Port
  5. Specify the IP address of the printer that they gave you in step 3.
  6. Follow the wizard to complete the printer setup.
  7. Print a test page, confirm it prints.
